Koi, Common Carp

Koi, specifically nishikigoi, are ornamental domesticated varieties of the common carp.
The German breeds German Carp. I am a bit surprised at it. Because I have looked Koi as the fish lives in Asia only.

I took these pictures at the pond of Kushida Shrine.

By the way, many Japanese don't know about this fact. Hiroshima Toyo Carp, famous pro baseball team in Japan was named from Hiroshima Castle. Because it was called Rijou, means Koi castle.

I am learning about Japan with writing the blog.

Yatai

A Yatai is a small, mobile food stall in Japan typically selling ramen or other hot food.

The stall is set-up in the early evening on pedestrian walkways and removed late at night or in the early morning hours before commuters begin to fill the streets.

Origami, the art of paper folding

I didn't have anything to do. So I made Origami.
This shape is a bird, named TURU.
Almost Japanese can make it within five minutes, maybe.

Do you Know "Golden Week" ?

" Golden Week " is a Japanglish word. At first, the owners of film theaters started using this word after the National Holidays Law was brought into effect in 1948. The numbers of people who went to see the movies was increasing during the week, so the owner started calling the week " Golden week", which meant " supremely wonderful week." Sincethen, this word has been popular.

Golden week is a long holiday week which starts on April 29, " Green Day", and ends on May 5, " Children's Day." During Golden Week, Green Day, Constitution Day ( May 3), and Children's Day are national holdays. Once holidays were studded during this week, so Golden Week was alsocalled " Tobi-ishi Renkyu ", which means "stepping-stone holidays". Butrecently this expression hasn't been used. Golden Week is an ideal tourist's season, so many people travel abroador around Japan.

It's easy!!

UKIYO-E, picture of everyday life in the Edo Period

The UKIYO-E was started in the latter half of the 16th century. It had the everyday life of Kyoto.

And then, because of woodblock-print that enabled mass production in Edo period, it was spread out among people.

Almost Japanese people saw UKIYO-E as the worthless cartoon.
Ironically, it was admired by the foreigner who saw it by chance.
